360 View from The Shard London Bridge

In May 2012 The Shard London Bridge will top out and become the tallest building in the European Union. Eye Revolution owner Will Pearson was commissioned to climb to the dizzying 310m peak and capture a 360 panorama overlooking London. It was a challenging shoot (where Will had to signal to the crane driver to get him to turn 45 degrees after each shot!) and technically it’s not a perfect image, but as a unique picture from an incredible location it has received lots of attention from Londoners and people worldwide. In fact, the image received so much attention on Facebook and Twitter that having hundreds of thousands of visitors was a good stress test for our network!

Happy New Year 2012

Welcome back to 2012, and what promises to be an exciting year. For the third time in history, the UK will host the Olympic Games (the previous games being 1908 and 1948 – after the 1944 games were cancelled due to WW2). London will make history as the only city in the world to have hosted three Olympic Games. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will see beacons lit all over the UK, special exhibitions, and a thousand boats forming a flotilla for a dramatic river procession on the Thames.

In 2011 we have been to shoot some incredible locations, and one of the most memorable was Talacre Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in North Wales dating from 1777. It’s fascinating to explore the modest living space and imagine the life of the past lighthouse keepers, keeping watch for unwary ships entering the Dee Estuary. The lighthouse is currently on the market for £100,000. Whilst it hardly boasts all mod cons, TV and electric are connected so you could spend many a cosy and night watching the storms coming in. Rather tempting we thought!

Here is a Christmas virtual tour to bring a smile to your face – part of a commission for an ad agency’s Christmas card. Early on a cold, damp December morning we invaded Oxford Circus for this guerilla shoot. It was that moment of the early morning when some folk are making their way home after a festive night out or an office Christmas party and others were gearing up for work, kind of like a change of shift. The brief was to capture the Agency’s staff creating a somewhat off-the-wall Nativity scene on Oxford street which would look like and work in a Google Maps environment, a collision of the surreal and the mundane?

It’s been a great year at Eye Revolution and we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a Fantastic new year in 2012!

Channel 4′s Shameless – TV Set Virtual Tours

We were delighted to be commissioned to create the TV set virtual tours and an interactive interface of the Chatsworth Estate for Channel 4′s award-winning drama series ‘Shameless’. The virtual tours were intended to give fans the opportunity to explore the estate at their leisure. As well the ability to wander around the estate, the tour features audio and video clips created exclusively for the 360 project. The virtual tour also reflects the risque side of the drama (check out Norma’s camper van) though the virtual tourists are barred from some areas in no uncertain terms!

Get inside 10 Downing Street

It’s three years since Eye Revolution were commissioned to give the public their first glimpse inside 10 Downing Street. Now we are pleased to announce that we have worked on new and updated virtual tours for the new No.10 website. In fact, the tours offer much more than a glimpse, giving the viewer the opportunity to inspect a full 360 degrees around many of the rooms inside 10 Downing Street in high resolution and at fullscreen size. You can zoom in to see the detail, such as the Union Flag which was carried to the moon and back by Apollo II!

Viewers can stand right outside the famous Number 10 door, taking in the view up and down Downing Street, and look at the black bricks – these are no longer blackened by London smog but were artificially blackened after the 1960s renovation as people had grown so used to seeing them as black!

Mercedes C Class Estate 360 Car Virtual Tour

Eye Revolution have created a car virtual tour of the inside of the new Mercedes C-Class Estate. The dynamic restyled C-Class estate is displayed in an impressive resolution, allowing the viewer to zoom in and around 360 degrees to really experience the features and comfort of the car interior. The quality of the photography highlights the Mercedes’ finish, from the brushed aluminium accents to the grain of the nappa leather. The car virtual tour gives the viewer the ability to have a thorough look around the car, encouraging them to visit the dealership and take a test drive.

Capturing 360 car interiors is about as complicated as it gets on a 360 virtual tour shoot. Working in a confined space, ensuring that the interior is lit effectively (without burning the paint off the car!). The Mercedes car virtual tour is a composition of over 200 individual photographs ‘stitched’ together to create a single 360 interactive image of the car interior. Post-production can typically take 4 to 5 days to achieve a good finish.

The images below show the 360 car virtual tour in progress in the studio.

It was great to plan and execute this technically challenging shoot to produce the car virtual tour for Mercedes and we’re very pleased with the results.

Helen & Douglas House – Charity of the Year

Helen & Douglas House Virtual Tours

We’re very pleased to launch the virtual tours for our Charity of the Year for 2010 – Helen & Douglas House.

Helen & Douglas House in Oxfordshire was the world’s first children’s hospice, and they provide respite care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and provide invaluable help for their families. They aim to help all the young people who visit the hospice life life to the full – as they poignantly put it ‘even when that life is short’.

We undertake a charitable project each year, and it was very clear that Helen & Douglas house was not just a very deserving cause, but one who could really utilise a virtual tour. Not only could it allow potential donors to see the amazing work that H&D do, but could also give families the chance to experience the environment before they visit, helping the children to find the surroundings familiar when they arrive.

The virtual tour guides the viewer around the two houses, highlighting important details as they go along – such as the extra-wide corridors especially for the residents’ wheelchair races!

New Buckingham Palace Virtual Tours In Celebration of the Royal Wedding

Eye Revolution are delighted to have created additional virtual tours for Buckingham Palace in advance of tomorrow’s Royal Wedding.

Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding reception is being held at Buckingham Palace. Among the many state rooms which guests will occupy are the White Drawing Room and the Blue Drawing Room.

Now you can stand where Prince William and Kate Middleton’s guests will be on the 29 April and view virtual tours of these opulent rooms. The tours include hotspots which you can click to read more information about the features within the rooms.

Capturing Space in Time: New Time Lapse Service

Eye Revolution are delighted to announce the launch of a new service which builds on how the virtual tours can display a space – time lapse movies.

The virtual tours allow potential customers to thoroughly explore your space, imagining themselves visiting it, using it and enjoying it. The time lapse service builds on this by giving potential customers the opportunity to see your space in use, and appreciate the full experience.

As you’d expect from Eye Revolution, our time lapse service focuses on quality. So much of the time lapse you see is simply a case of installing a camera, letting it run and speeding it up. This approach isn’t something which we feel would add value for our clients, so each Eye Revolution time lapse project is directed, filmed and edited by professional directors, cameramen and editors to ensure that the final movie truly engages the viewer.

The time lapse video above shows ‘a day in the life’ of the events space at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. Around 24 hours footage showing the space being prepared ready for an event, through to the guests arriving and enjoying their evening, to the packing up and clearing of the space has been condensed into just under 3 minutes.
