Mammography Suite

Within the Unit there are two G.E. digital mammography units that are linked to a dedicated high resolution reporting workstation and to PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System).

Both these mammography rooms are used for diagnostic mammography. The larger room, in addition, has a stereotactic facility to enable Consultant Radiologists to undertake stereotactic guided biopsies and stereotactic guided pre-operative localisations of mammographically detected impalpable breast lesions.

The stereotactic room also contains a Faxitron which enables the Consultant Radiologist to immediately confirm that the specimens obtained are representative of the abnormality in the breast.
