Lancaster Gate, Hyde Park
Hyde Park is the biggest Royal Park and covers 340 acres of land in Central London. It was created in the 17th century, and finally fenced in by Charles II. It was the scene of famous duels and even coach races (Cromwell was dragged by a horse here, and a pistol went off in his pocket). There are still diverse activities for modern-day visitors to Hyde Park such as boating on the Serpentine, visiting the Serpentine art gallery, watching the orators at Speaker’s Corner, swimming in the lido, going horseriding along Rotten Row, play tennis, visiting the Diana Memorial Fountains or the statue of Peter Pan and much more.
This virtual tour shows the Italian Gardens at Lancaster Gate, and Queen Anne’s Alcove, built by Sir Christopher Wren, the architect of St Paul’s Cathedral. Please click the thumbnail image below to view the fullscreen Hyde Park virtual tour.
